Foods that any dog should avoid & why

  • Avocado: contains a substance called Persin which induces vomiting and causes diarrhea.
  • Raisins/Currants: causes kidney failure.
  • Cooked Bones: causes stomach lacerations.
  • Walnuts/Macadamias: causes nervous system and muscle damage.
  • Alcohol: causes coma, death and intoxication.
  • Onions/Garlic: causes blood cell damage and anemia.
  • Dairy: too much causes diarrhea.
  • Grapes: causes kidney failure.
  • Mushrooms: depends on variety but may cause death.
  • Fatty Foods: depends on amount but may cause pancreatitis.
  • Caffeine: causes vomiting, diarrhea and is toxic to the heart and nervous system.
  • Xylitol: found in gum, candy and peanut butter: causes liver failure, hypoglycemia and death.
  • Chocolate: is toxic to the heart and nervous system. May cause death.
  • Medications such as Tylenol/Advil: may cause kidney failure and GI ulcers.
